Your age may well determine your answer. Research by Virgin Active has revealed that the age of 32 is when Brits start exercising for health rather than looks.

Physio Tim Wright, who has worked with the London Irish RFC and at the Sydney Olympics, put together a checklist of simple exercises or movements you should be able to complete to ensure you are as fit and mobile as you should be for your age.

Virgin Active’s findings revealed that:

  • Over half (58%) of Brits under 25 state ‘looking good’ as their number one motivator for working out
  • Over half of people between the ages of 25 and 34 (55%) claimed they’d rather look slim and toned in holiday photos than be fit enough to run a marathon
  • Just under a third (29.6%) of Brits keep fit for stress relief
  • Over 55s are likely to spend 12% longer exercising than those under 24, for an average of 4.8 hours a week

The research was timed to coincide with the launch of Virgin Active’s new in-club service, Beyond Movement (a combination of Reformer Pilates, sports massage and physio).
