Purple patch: the right lavender

lavendar-bathe

Thanks to its relaxing qualities, lavender has been used in beauty products for yonks, and is a popular choice for bath oils and body washes. To help you sleep, you can also add 5 drops of lavender essential oil to the bath before bed (don’t add oils to running water as they are very volatile and will disappear into the steam rather than the water). Soak for 20 minutes.

But it’s also important to remember that not all lavender is made the same: choose high-altitude lavender oil made in France for a certain je ne sais quoi. It contains contains higher natural linalyl acetate (ester) levels, for enhanced slumber. You will find plenty more beautiful bath ideas in my latest book, Bathe, published on 18 October.

In the product links below I’ve listed my favourite high-altitude lavender oils for you to buy – rest assured, these are among the best on the market. Another new one that we love is French Lavender Oil from Primal Cure at primalcure.com. And insomniacs may also want to check out This Works Sleep Plus Pillow Spray with lavender, ho wood and patchouli, another fantastic natural way to nod off…
