Exercise at The Library

the Antidote to... a dusty gym membership

The Library isn’t just another gym – and I’m not alluding to its slightly misleading name.

The method they use is short sharp movements, working on a different part of the body each session – arms, legs and chest and back. The best part? Each session is just FIFTEEN minutes! So you can be in and out in less time than an episode of Strictly. This means there is literally no excuse for being slack whatsoever and also that it’s more beneficial to locals (there are also studios in Mayfair and Barnes, which widens the radius a little).

Founder Zana’s energy is infectious, she’s also a nutritionist and helped with meal planning (stick to it as they randomly ask you what you ate for dinner when bleary-eyed at 7am) – whether you’re there for weight loss or strengthening, the menu is customised to your needs.

Next up are the Strong Nutrients supplements, £16.95 which I decided to try as I had been feeling sluggish and tired despite lots of sleep and water. The Live Wire! Capsules are full of iron and fit the bill perfectly. Needless to say I was perkier just a week later; according to Zana the more you take per day the better (she recommended a whopping 10!) Other supplements that come highly rated are the Chill Pills, which support overworked adrenal glands and help you gain perspective rather than go into total meltdown mode.

The sessions may be short but they’re in no way easy, designed to make you feel like you literally cannot move the muscle group you’ve worked on afterwards. Each visit is finished off with a gruelling abs session – sit ups, side sit ups, crunches – you name it. You’ll feel like you have been punched repeatedly in the stomach but you’ll look airbrushed. Pain in gain.

I’d say The Library Gym is most beneficial to those able to come daily and really commit. Short, sharp sessions and movements but regularly. After a month there was honestly a huge difference in the way I looked and felt. Not quite Victoria’s Secret territory but not far off.
